As wonderful as receiving gifts can feel, it is also important to remember that the holidays are a time of gratitude and giving.  Earlier this month our Heartland family in Peoria, IL took time to give back to their community by volunteering at the Midwest Food Bank. Their mission is to alleviate hunger and poverty by gathering and distributing food donations to non-for-profits and disaster sites without cost to recipients. Each month they distribute over 13.2 million dollars worth of food to over 14,000 non-profits. To accomplish this goal, the Midwest Food Bank relies heavily on volunteers such as our Heartland team. Spending time volunteering at the food bank was a great team building experience for our associates. They worked together to collect nearly 800 individual bags of breakfast biscuits that would ultimately provide breakfast for nearly 2,640 people. This experience reminded our employees of the impact we can have when we give a little bit of our time to help others.
