Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about the ability of the average person to serve their community, the importance of ending food insecurity and working together to achieve equality in our neighborhoods and communities. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, our team spent the day volunteering with The Mission Continues. The Mission Continues is an organization that encourages veteran volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.
Our team spent the afternoon constructing a community garden at the George Washington Carver Urban Farm alongside other volunteers. The site is an urban community farm in the heart of the North City area of St. Louis, which is traditionally an underserved neighborhood and a food desert.
