This past November, Heartland’s top 100 Leaders gathered in our Kansas City Hometown for our Annual Pyramidion Meeting. The three-day meeting was extra special because it marked the first time in over 1000 days that our entire team had been together as a whole organization. We believe we are only as strong as the communities we serve, so in the spirit of building together, it was only appropriate that we kicked off our meeting by building a stronger community. We brought in our partners at Veterans Community Project, Phoenix Family, The Ronald McDonald House, and The Boys and Girls Club of Topeka for an afternoon of giving back. Our teams were divided into groups and completed various initiatives, from creating Veteran’s Thank you Bags to building bikes, making Thanksgiving boxes, and even Encouragement protein packs.

Day two of our Pyramidion Meeting was about diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging as we continue to move the needle as an organization. We had a jam-packed day of tremendous speakers and on hands training that tackled a different area of focus from unconscious bias in the context of structural inequalities, how to measure DE&I performance indicators, employing differently-abled individuals, and inclusivity of the LGBTQ+ community. These thought-provoking and eye-opening discussions provided a safe space for our team to ask challenging questions and educate themselves on how to continue creating an inclusive work environment.

On Day three, we wrapped up the meeting with our eyes set on the future. As an organization, we have so much to celebrate. As each department outlined its vision, goals, and plans for 2023, we also celebrated the hard work, exponential growth, and accomplishments we experienced in our first five years. 2022 has been one for the books, and we have no plans for slowing down in 2023. We will continue pushing the envelope to better serve our people, customers, and community—cheers to our first five, the next five, and beyond.
