In the month of June our Central Illinois and Wichita-Garden City Hometowns had the opportunity to sponsor and volunteer at the Special Olympic Summer games being held in their state. This year’s games were especially meaningful because it celebrated the Special Olympics 50th Anniversary.
Over in Kansas, our Heartland Coca-Cola family volunteered by preparing lunches for over 1,600 athletes and coaches. Each participant received a sandwich, chips, cookie, banana, and a cold Dasani water. In Central Illinois our team was able to oversee and monitor the events such as swimming, javelin, track, and the torch run.
It’s always an honor and privilege to volunteer at such a unique organization like Special Olympics. Their goal to promote the ideals of acceptance and inclusion through sport is something we at Heartland can really appreciate.
